Review of fully modular Deepcool DQ850-M-V2L 850W power supply

Today, computer components are becoming more expensive so quickly that it seems that the time will come, and you will be able to change your gaming PC or workstation to a house on the seashore, or even to an island in the ocean. When first video cards become more expensive, then memory chips drag up the prices for SSD and RAM, you already treat the computer itself not as a cheap trinket, which it has remained for the last 10 years, but as an expensive, almost exclusive device worthy of the best. And if you are ready to pay 3-4 times more for a video card and 2 times more for hard drives, then you need to choose a better, more powerful and more expensive power supply, until it becomes even more expensive. Here, the canons of choice are all the same as they were 2-3 years ago: high-quality models are certified 80 Plus Gold, and the best of them are built on the Seasonic Focus Gold platform.

This platform is interesting because it has 1 main DC bus +12V, from which there are branches to other service voltages (+3.3 V, +5V) through DC-DC converters, this scheme allows you to minimize the number of components on the board and increase the efficiency of the power supply.

As in all models on the Seasonic Focus Gold platform, it uses a 120-mm HA1225H12F-Z fan from Hong Hua with an impeller rotation speed of 2000 RPM. Due to the fact that a hydrodynamic bearing with a resource of 50,000 hours is used in the rotor suspension, we can talk about the high reliability of the device. The angle of attack of the blades is designed mainly to create high pressure, and half of the working surface is closed so that the air flow is better distributed over the space of the power supply unit and cools its radiators. The fan has two stages of rotation speed: 900 and 1450 RPM, and the speed is selected depending on the load, and the transition to the maximum speed is shifted to as high as possible - in the area of 85%. That is, in typical office conditions, the power supply will behave very quietly.

Brown Japanese Nippon Chemi-Con capacitors of the KZE series do not need an introduction: everyone knows them, and today they have become synonymous with high quality and durability, so every manufacturer of recent years has emphasized their use as much as possible in the characteristics and photos on the website. These capacitors have a temperature coefficient of 2000 hours at 105 degrees Celsius, which is expressed in about 12 years of operation in normal mode, without overheating.

A complete filter is soldered at the AC input, in which two chokes are installed on the main board, and the capacitors are installed on a separate input board. A varistor is also used here, which protects the power supply from an increased voltage at the input (Over Voltage Protection). A pair of diode bridges is located on one common radiator. The +5 and +3.3 V DC-DC converters are installed on the daughter board and have one common aluminum radiator. The quality of the choice of components is characterized, among other things, by the fact that even on the ferrite rings around which the filters are wound, there is a manufacturer's marking, that is, the power supply unit is literally bursting with brand identity, it is here in everything.

The DeepCool DQ850-M-V2L power supply is fully modular, meaning you can disconnect all cables, including ATX24 Pin. This may be necessary for the convenience of connection in some unusual cases, for example, in those where the PSU is installed from below in a closed compartment.

The connectors for connecting cables are located on a separate daughter board, and here the manufacturer did not skimp on RF filters against interference: one electrolytic and 13 Nichicom solid-state capacitors.

Testing

When testing, we first check the output of bus voltages beyond the nominal value at various loads.

No one doubted that the deviations were within acceptable limits.

As for efficiency, the peak here falls on the range of 500-700 watts, and the maximum noise level is reached already at a load of 600 watts. The noise level is 35 dB at maximum RPM, so even at maximum load, the PSU remains very quiet.

As expected, the delivery of a top-end gaming product is wonderful: in a separate case there is the power supply itself, and next to it there are cables in the purse. For sure, you will not use some of them during assembly, and you will be able to store them in a civilized way, in a convenient bag.

As for the cables, these are the most common conductors with polymer insulation and conventional connectors. If you want to install a braid on them, you will not have any problems.

Conclusions

DeepCool DQ850-M-V2L is the choice for those who are looking for high quality. So far, no one in the consumer segment of BP has offered anything better than Seasonic platforms. There is nothing to complain about here: the power supply is working quietly, and all deviations are within the normal range. The only drawback is that the PSU does not have an option with a white body color and RGB backlight.

Given the excellent technical characteristics, voltage deviation indicators according to tests and a 10-year warranty, we can say that the DeepCool DQ850-M-V2L is the optimal PSU that you need to take until they have learned how to mine and they have not disappeared from sale.
