Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo 900 - review of robot vacuum cleaner with cartography

The difference between a cheap robot vacuum cleaner and an expensive one is not so obvious – several times different in price models look very similar and it seems that they also have functionality. But not everything is so simple, otherwise there would not be such a tough competition for such a large selection. We have experience with inexpensive models, and today, using the example of the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo 900, we will see what a truly "smart" robot vacuum cleaner should be able to do.

Just note that the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo 900 is far from the top model in the line, there are even more expensive and more functional models. And so, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo 900 comes in a cardboard box of typical sizes, which in addition to the robot itself also contains a charging station, a wet cleaning tank, a main and spare sets of side brushes, a pair of dust filters, a direct suction module (which is installed instead of a turbo brush), a wet cleaning cloth with a platform for its installation and a brush for servicing the robot.

Some immediately noticed that the kit does not have a remote control or any kind of motion limiter (like a virtual wall). This vacuum cleaner does not need all this, because: first, it is equipped with a built-in lidar and is able to independently build a room plan, and secondly, it is controlled through an application, which we will talk about in the next section. In the meantime, let's take a closer look at the appearance of the robot.

On top of the protruding tower (like a tank) – the same lidar, also on top is the power button and the network indicator, and of course on top is the lid, behind which the garbage container is hidden. The front has a protective bumper with an obstacle sensor. By the way, if we talk about the disadvantages, then of course the total height of the vacuum cleaner (due to the strongly protruding tower), as much as 10 centimeters, should be attributed to the disadvantages.

Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo 900 can also do wet cleaning, for which a water container is installed on the back, plus there is a removable cloth. What distinguishes this model from cheap robots is the presence of a pump, that is, water is supplied not by gravity, but by means of a pump, and therefore such a wet cleaning can be considered more correct. Also of interest is the fact that the V-shaped turbo brush can be replaced with a direct suction module, but as practice shows, the turbo brush does a better job of collecting garbage, and, in particular, hair.

Software

To control the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo 900, you need a Wi-Fi network (and only 2.4 GHz), and, of course, a smartphone or tablet with a proprietary application installed. Connecting the vacuum cleaner is carried out in just a couple of clicks, and the full potential of the device is revealed to the user.

First, the robot itself builds a plan of the room and shows the trajectory of movement, that is, it shows its cleaning plan. At the same time, if the vacuum cleaner can not cover the entire room on one charge, then after leaving for charging, it continues cleaning from the place where it finished. That is, it will not clean up twice in one place. Second – you can set one of two suction capacities, and at the standard value, the vacuum cleaner practically does not make noise. At the same time, you can set the vacuum cleaner to go to maximum power on the carpet. The degree of water supply during wet cleaning is also regulated. Third – you can set a cleaning schedule, choose the "do not disturb" time, that is, during this period, the vacuum cleaner will not come out for cleaning. And the fourth – there is a history of cleaning and counting the resource of accessories-when the filter or brushes require replacement, the program will tell you about it. Well, you can also choose the language of voice notifications, Russian is present, this is good.

My own experience

The volume of the dust collector is 450 ml, the volume of the water tank is 240 ml, the suction power is 50 W (1500 Pa). The robot takes 4 hours to fully charge, and the battery life is about an hour and a half. But what is very important, as we said above - if the full charge is not enough for the entire cleaning cycle, the robot itself will continue cleaning from the stop point. Especially pleasing is the low noise level when choosing the usual suction power. At the same time, increasing the power on carpets provides better cleaning on these difficult surfaces. Plus, do not forget about wet cleaning with water supply using a pump – if the cheap models use a drip system, then the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo 900 has everything more thought out.

Another couple of advantages – the possibility of zonal cleaning, that is, you can specify which area to clean at a given time, as well as the ability to connect to Google Home for subsequent voice control. But unfortunately, this model cannot be linked to Alice. But the older model Ozmo 950-you can.

Conclusions

In normal cleaning mode, the vacuum cleaner is quite quiet, which means that it can really be used when someone is at home. Cheap robot vacuum cleaners, alas, cause discomfort, and therefore you have to put the cleaning during the absence of people in the room. In addition, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo 900 has a more efficient wet cleaning than its cheaper counterparts. Well, a huge plus is the function of mapping and full control from a smartphone – you can set the cleaning time, and the vacuum cleaner can be interrupted to recharge and return to work after charging.
