Ippon PDU Basic 0U review

Ippon is a brand widely known for its uninterruptible power supplies. Not so long ago, power distribution units were introduced, namely three models - PDU Basic 0U, PDU Basic 1U and DU Meter 0U. We got the first model, Ippon PDU Basic 0U, which is designed for power distribution in the server rack.

The PDU is delivered in an eco-friendly cardboard package. The kit includes a user manual and a set of fasteners. This model is a long narrow socket block with 24 sockets: 20 of them are the most popular IEC–C13, from which 99% of network devices and server equipment are powered, and 4 IEC-C19 sockets, for example, for connecting UPS or additional distributors.

External dimensions of the model - 1047 x 50 x 44.4 mm, weight – 2.2 kg. The size in units is 1.1U. The case is made of aluminum and covered with black powder paint. The mounting lugs are located at the ends of the block. A power cable with a C20 plug with a maximum current of 16A also comes out of one end, that is, the maximum load on the entire unit should not exceed 3.5 kW.

The most curious and pleasant thing about this model is that each connector is equipped with protection against accidental cable removal. If in the case of IEC-C19 it is a familiar metal bracket, then in IEC-C13 it is plastic U-shaped sliding latches. After connecting the cable, the latches need to be moved to each other, and they will completely block the plug and exclude the possibility of cable extraction. Even if you apply a remarkable force, you still won't be able to pull out the cable.

As for the rest of the new products, the Ippon PDU Basic 1U is a more familiar unit for a 19” rack, it occupies 1 unit and has 12 sockets. And the Ippon DU Meter 0U is more like a Basic 0U PDU with the difference that it has a wattmeter, but there are fewer sockets - only 16 pieces.
